You’re sitting closer to your monitor than your television. Too low of a resolution and you will see the individual pixels, especially if your monitor is larger. Today’s most common resolution definitions are 8K, 5K, 4K UHD (3,840x2,160 pixels), Quad HD (QHD or 1440p, 2,560x1,440) and Full HD (FHD, 1,920x1,080).
While resolution and screen size go hand-in-hand, what you have the ability to do is scale your monitor to the ideal pixel density, measured in pixels per inch or ppi. For the most part, you want a high pixel density. To give an idea, a 27 inch 4K monitor, 3840x2160p, has a pixel density of 163.18 ppi, while a 1920x1080p monitor has a pixel density of 81.59 ppi. On a 24 inch monitor the same 1920x1080p resolution is 91.79 ppi, which is why a smaller computer is sometimes better for a lower resolution. Some prefer a ppi at or around 100. If resolution is most important, and you have the budget for an expensive monitor, then 8K monitors are a viable option, though unnecessary right now. 5K is a barely noticeable upgrade compared to 4K. The recommended is a 4K resolution.
